Meeting help
You're invited. Here's how to join.
This page helps you join a Microsoft Teams meeting with us. You don't need an account, and you don't need to install anything.
Joining
-
Join in the browser without the Teams app
The fastest route. Works in Edge and Chrome with no installation.
- In the calendar entry or email, click "Join meeting now".
- Choose "Continue on this browser".
- Confirm the browser prompt asking for microphone and camera.
- Enter your name and click "Join now".
-
Join with the Teams app
If you use Teams anyway, the app is the more stable option.
- Click the invitation link.
- Choose "Join on the Teams app".
- If the app isn't installed yet, follow the download prompt - or take the browser route.
- Before joining, check that the right account is signed in.
-
Join as a guest without a Microsoft account
You don't need a Microsoft account to attend our meetings.
- Open the link in your browser.
- Choose "Continue on this browser" instead of signing in.
- Enter the name you want us to see in the meeting.
- Click "Join now".
- We'll let you in from the lobby.
-
Dial in by phone
No stable connection? If the invitation includes a dial-in section, the audio also works over a phone line.
- Find the dial-in number and conference ID in the invitation.
- If there's no such section, dial-in isn't set up for this meeting - just let us know.
- Call the number, then enter the conference ID followed by the hash key.
- Say your name when you join - we can't see it on a phone line.
- Video and screen sharing aren't available when you dial in.
In the meeting
-
Allow microphone and camera
The most common reason for silence: the browser blocked access.
- Click the lock or camera icon in the address bar.
- Set microphone and camera to "Allow".
- Reload the page and join again.
- In the meeting, check the bar at the bottom for a crossed-out microphone or camera.
-
Share your screen
Works in the browser and in the app - in the browser your operating system asks as well.
- Click "Share" in the meeting bar.
- Pick a single window rather than the whole screen if you have private things open.
- On macOS, confirm the system prompt for screen recording.
- Stop sharing via "Stop sharing" in the same bar.
-
Firewall or IT blocks Teams
Some corporate networks block meeting tools. That's not something we can change from the outside.
- Try the browser route - it gets blocked less often than the app.
- Try a different network, such as your phone's hotspot.
- Ask your IT department to allow Microsoft Teams.
- Otherwise give us a quick call. If the invitation includes a dial-in number, the meeting works with audio only.
-
Recording and privacy
We usually record meetings to write up the minutes. We announce it beforehand.
- While a recording runs, Teams shows it visibly to everyone.
- If you'd rather we didn't, say so right at the start - then we won't record.
- Teams can also produce a transcript or AI notes. Same rule: tell us and we leave it off.
- Our privacy policy explains which data we process and how.
